Real-Iceland is written by me, Jonathan R. Byron. I lived in Iceland for five years, and since moving back to the U.S., I visit from time to time. My wife is from Akureyri in the North of Iceland; we met when she was in school in the US, got married, and decided to give Iceland a go.

My goal in creating this website is to provide quality information and build a resource that gives a realistic description of Iceland. Sites that exist solely to promote tourism are great - but they only tell one set of stories, and Iceland is much more than that. Encyclopedia sites are good and proper, but can be boring and impersonal and can't cover everything. But a personal website can incorporate accurate information AND provide the details you won't find on other sites.

In my other life, I have a Ph.D. in geography and work full-time for an environmental consulting company, where I am a senior GIS analyst (I make computer maps and do various types of analysis).
